Ultrasound
Technology Program
Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography (echocardiography) is a safe, reliable imaging modality that is routinely used
to evaluate the anatomy and hemodynamics of the heart. As such, cardiac sonographers are vital to the practice
of cardiology. The program will consist of didactic classroom instruction supported by the direct application
of theory to practice in the clinical setting. Upon, completion of the course, the graduate will be qualified
to work in hospitals, clinics and doctors' offices as members of the dynamic health team of the future.

Program Description
Institute of Health Sciences offers an 18-month Echocardiography Program with clinical sites in Baltimore,
Maryland. Academic lectures originate primarily from the
Jackson College in Detroit, Michigan and are made
available to the students using state-of-the-art, interactive video-enabled classrooms. This system goes
beyond traditional distance education and allows live, face-to-face collaboration between students and
faculty. The program offers an exceptional educational experience by providing the high-quality didactic and
clinical experiences needed to create a well-rounded, fully competent cardiac sonographer in an
environment based on teamwork and mutual respect.
You will have an opportunity to train or observe in congenital echocardiography and stress echocardiography. Our large, diverse patient population provides experience with a broad range of cardiac problems.

Admission Requirements
* Seventeen General Education college
credits are required with A&P and Biology.
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Pre-approved clinical site
* Basic word processing and computer skills
* Computer access is required
* CPR certification |

Articulation Information
The curriculum for the Health Sciences' Cardiac Ultrasound Technology Program is
provided along with the Jackson College in Detroit, Michigan. Upon sucessful
completion the student receives an Associate in Arts Degree from Jackson along
with a IHS diploma. The program expects the student to be computer literate
since the didactic program is given on-line through Web Study. The majority of
the first nine months of the program you will be taking classes at IHS Online
and assigned clinical rotations and a mentor at a medical center. |
