TELENET is a Maryland and Worldwide educational
videoconference network. TELENET 2 links up to 20 sites simultaneously making it
possible for people to electronically attend university courses, seminars,
trainings, workshops, meetings, etc. There are 25 established TELENET 2 sites in
Maryland and other location throughout the state, nation and the world are
possible.
The educational network is used for a variety of programs. University of
Maryland regularly offers upper division and graduate courses on TELENET 2 for
educators, nurses, librarians, counselors, dietitians, and others. Other
organizations have offered health training, legislative updates, job training,
and administrative meetings via TELENET 2.
Although TELENET 2 was primarily built to bring educational opportunities to
Universitys, its capabilities extend beyond the State linking national and
international sites. Any videoconferencing system with H.320 or H.323
compatibility can link to the network. Three universities linked via TELENET 2
to team teach an electrical engineering course with teachers in two states and
students in three. Guest speakers in Montana, Texas, and Virginia have presented
to students in Maryland via TELENET 2. Internationally, individuals at TELENET 2
sites have linked with France, Norway, Russia, Uruguay, and Brazil.
Logistical and administrative services are provided by the IHS Network staff
located in Baltimore, Maryland. |
